Abstract

Writing is one of the courses that has to be learned by the students. In the pocess of writing, they must have ability to write a sentence that is good and correct. To make good and true sentence, they must understand linguistic structure, especially in the use of connecting word so the sentence they create are good and understandable to the reader. This study aims to analyze the types of connecting words found in the middle of the Writing I semester exam on Paragraph Writing. The type of this research is qualitative research, where the data source is 74 sheets of the middle semester test of the first year students in the A-C class in the Writing I. The Instrument in this research is document analysis. Based on the theory of David (2012: 439) The types of connecting words in the research are: Coordinating Conjunction, Subbordinate Conjunction and Correlative Conjunction. From the data obtained during the study, the researcher concluded that the types of connecting words often used by students in their writing is Coordinating Conjunction and Subbordinate Conjunction. No correlation of Correlative Conjunction is found on students’ writing. Key words: Conjunction, Coordinating Conjunction, Subbordinate Conjunction, Correlative Conjunction.
