Abstract

Climate change has negative impacts on agriculture productions around the world, and these impacts are projected to increase in the future. The scientific report on prediction the impacts of climate change with current and projected future climate data found that the suitable area of main food crops would reduce along with climate change. West Sumatra province is one of the major producers of agriculture commodities in Sumatra. The changes of precipitation, accumulated temperature and increasing number of natural disasters such as flooding and drought influencing West Sumatra’s agricultural productions. Reducing the agricultral producing due to the climate change will lead to the problems of food security and farmer’s income. Therefor it need a further study on the impacts of climate change on farmer’s income and welfare on various agro-ecological zone in West Sumatra. As part of the first assessment is to determine and generate map of agro-ecological zone of West Sumatra province under historical and current climatic condition. The study will also assess the possibility of shifting the agro-ecological zone in West Sumatra due to climate change. The next assessment will on farmer’s income and welfare as impact of climate change based on the agro-ecological zone in West Sumatra. The contribution of this study is to provide and support the information for decision making on mitigation and adaptation of agricultural development under future climate change condition in West Sumatra province. Research result suggest there are six found agro ecology zone in West Sumatra Key word: Impact Climate Change, farmer income and welfare, Agro ecology zone
